Asturias has been occupied by human groups since the Lower Paleolithic (100,000 years ago). There are cave paintings dating back 30,000 years ago and correspond to the Solutrean, Magdalenian and Aurignacian cultures belonging to the Upper Palaeolithic.

Pre-Romanesque art and architecture is the period in European art from the Carolingian Renaissance in the late 8th century, to the beginning of the 11th century Romanesque period.
